William Bayard Cutting was a. attorney, financier, real estate developer, sugar beet refiner and philanthropist.

The home was built by architect, Charles C. Haight, in 1884 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The home is now currently part of Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park.
