Fort Saint Elmo is a fortification in Valletta, Malta. The movie Midnight Express was filmed here. Filmed on location in Malta after permission to film in Istanbul was denied, the Turkish government officials greatly resented the portrayal of their country in the movie, and made this known to the media in general after the film's release.
