La Croix des Gardes castle—the fantastic French setting of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 thriller To Catch a Thief starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant—is a breathtaking Florentine-style château located atop a hill in Cannes overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was built in 1919, but English architect Alan Gore later added a neo-Palladian extension. With nearly 13,000 square feet of living space, the home boasts immense, opulent rooms with marble and herringbone wood floors, elegant trim, expansive arched windows, and sweeping verandas. The beauty of the property is even more apparent when you’re amid the magical grounds and gardens, set over 24 acres. There are manicured lawns of course, but also winter and Asian-style gardens, a glass-enclosed orangerie, crisp hedges, and a swimming pool—all set against a backdrop of the Mediterranean. The villa has been renovated since it was featured in the movie.

The house is owned by Adnan Khashoggi, a Turkish-Saudi Arabian arms-dealer and businessman. He is noted for his engagements with high society in both the Occidental and Arabic-speaking worlds, and for his involvement in the Iran-Contra and Lockheed bribery scandals, and numerous other affairs.

The estate was put on the market in 2016 for $56 Million.
