Drayton House (Saltburn Filming Location)

Drayton House is a Grade I listed country house of many periods 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west of the village of Lowick, Northamptonshire, England. It has passed only by inheritance since it was last sold in 1361, although this was itself an arrangement within extended family who had been there for nearly 300 years already. It is currently owned by the Stopford Sackville family.

The house and gardens were used as the titular Saltburn estate in Emerald Fennell's 2023 film of the same name. The director chose to film at Drayton, saying the estate shouldn’t look familiar to viewers. Nothing seen in widely beloved productions, like Downtown Abbey, would do. She also wanted the home to serve as the movie’s main location, where the interiors could be tapped for filming instead of sets built on soundstages. So, the production secured a long-standing, lush estate that had never been used for filming before. The owners of the estate allowed production to make significant modifications to the property -- something which would not have been allowed, had they opted to film at a historic estate owned by the Crown.
