He is former President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of HealthPeak Property Investors, Inc. (‘HCPI’). Mr. Flaherty joined HCPI in October 2002 following a 19- year career with Merrill Lynch & Co. Mr. Flaherty served in a variety of investment banking, capital markets and private equity functions for Merrill Lynch in their New York, London and Los Angeles offices.

Jay is Member of the VSCP Strategic Advisory Board. Mr. Flaherty is former Managing Partner of NorthStar Healthcare Finance. Previous to joining NorthStar, Mr. Flaherty was the Chairman and CEO of HCP, Inc., from 2003 to 2013. During his tenure at HCP, Mr. Flaherty grew HCP’s equity market capitalization tenfold, from approximately $2 billion in 2003 to over $20 billion in 2013, becoming the third largest REIT in the United States, the first healthcare REIT selected to the S&P 500 and the only REIT in the world selected to the S&P 500 “Dividend Aristocrats” Index. During Mr. Flaherty’s tenure at HCP, average shareholder returns exceeded 15% per year.

The company has a $16B market cap as of 2021.

Flaherty was elected Managing Director of the firm in January 1991 and
served as an executive responsible for a number of investment banking
industry groups at Merrill Lynch. Most significantly, Mr. Flaherty was
head of Merrill Lynch’s Global Healthcare Group where he was responsible
for creating and leading Merrill Lynch’s preeminent healthcare
franchise. Throughout his career with Merrill Lynch, Mr. Flaherty
developed significant corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions
expertise along with substantial relationships with senior healthcare
executives. In addition, from 1995 to 2001, Mr. Flaherty was a member of
Merrill Lynch’s Investment Banking Operating Committee. Mr. Flaherty
received a BBA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 1979
and an MBA from the Graduate School of Management at the University of
California, Los Angeles in 1983. Mr. Flaherty was associated with the
accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney in its Boston office from 1979 to
1981 where he was a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Flaherty is
originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, and attended The Loomis-
Chaffee School.

Mr. Flaherty serves on the Board of Directors of Quest
Diagnostics Incorporated, a leading national provider of diagnostic
testing, information and services. From 1991-2001, Mr. Flaherty served
as a member of the Board of Trustees at St. John’s Hospital and Health
Center in Santa Monica, California.

His philanthropic activities
presently include serving as a member of the College of Arts and Letters
Advisory Council at the University of Notre Dame, Member of the St.

Monica’s Parish Finance Council and a member of the Board of Trustees
for Catholic Charities.
