John Muir (4/21/1838 to 12/24/1914) was a famous Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, botanist, zoologist, glaciologist, and advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States of America.

The museum opened in 2008 and is dedicated to John Muir's studies.
