Malcolm X lived in this house from the ages of 14-21 with his legal guardian and half sister Ella Little-Collins. Malcolm called Ella "the first really proud black woman I had ever seen".
Ella worked as Congressman Adam Clayton Powell's secretary, the manager of her mother's grocery store, and an investor in property. When Malcom died in 1965 Ella led the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
The house is the last-known surviving childhood home of Malcolm X.
