In the 19th century, Stella Arbenina and Baron Paul Mayendorf and their three children, decided to build a Knightly styled castle in the Moscow region of Russia. In 1914, during the height of the revolution, the family was imprisoned and their lands seized. Only through efforts of the Baltic Germans were they finally released and allowed to leave Russia. Although With virtually their entire estate now in the hands of the Bolsheviks.

After the October revolution, Lenin lived and worked in the Castle for some time, but the estate did not become a full-fledged residence. Lenin preferred Gorki situated south of Moscow.

In Soviet times, the estate was used both as a sanatorium and a pioneer camp.

by the beginning of the 2000s it was completely abandoned. the estate was restored in 2005, and since 2008 the castle has become one of the official residences of Dimitry Medvedev.
