Norah Head Lighthouse

Norah Head Lighthouse (StreetView)
The Norah Head Lighthouse was built between 1901 and 1903 and opened in November 1903. It was built in the style of James Barnet although the designs for the lighthouse might have been those of his successor C W Darley.

James Johnstone Barnet was a Scottish born architect who in 1860 joined the Colonial Architect’s Office and spent most of his career as the Colonial Architect for New South Wales, Australia.

The 27.5m (90ft) tower is constructed from pre-cast concrete blocks which is topped by a gallery of bluestone above which it the original lantern. The light flashes white at 15 second intervals and has a range of 26 nautical miles.

The lighthouse which is operated by New South Wales Maritime Services was automated in 1995.

Following the automation of the lighthouse the buildings at Norah Head are available to let as holiday accommodation and there are also facilities for hosting functions such as weddings .
