On the 8th of September 1943, Italy made armistice with the Allies Forces. One of the first troops to fight alongside the Allies and against German forces was the First Recce Squadron. This unit was born from the Nembo Regiment, which in a time of terrible derangement and general anarchy, made the very difficult decision of placing itself under direct service to the Allied Armed Forces. The F Recce Squadron moved along the Italian peninsula with Allied troops and participated in the battle of Cassino, the liberation of Rome and Florence, and in the only parachuting war efforts made by Italian paratroopers on national ground. The F Recce Squadron paratroops were one of the first squadrons to have gone beyond the Gothic line and also one of the most highly decorated squadrons from WWII.
