Shattuck-Saint Mary's is a prestigious private boarding school. The school has received national acclaim for its programs in ice hockey, soccer, figure skating, golf, and the arts. The school was established on June 3, 1858, and has been at this location since 1864.

Several former students became successful NHL players, including Sidney Crosby, Zach Parise, and Jonathan Toews. Other notable alumni include actor Marlon Brando and sportscaster Brent Musberger.

The 1995 film "Embrace of the Vampire" starring Alyssa Milano was filmed here.
