The walls in the Ahrikapi area of Istanbul, date from the fifth century CE and are named for the Byzantine emperor Theosious II, the Theodosian Walls.
The walls together with other Byzantine remains are scattered across the part of the city known as its historical peninsula in the Fatih municipality.
The fall of Constantinople in 1453 was an historic turning point for the city and wider region. Today the wall remnants are a reminder of this historical turning point.
