Hans Ullstein was a German lawyer and publisher, who, along with his brothers Hermann, Louis, Franz and Rudolf, ran Ullstein Verlag, one of the largest publishing companies in Germany, which was founded by his father.

He lived here from 1903-1935 when he was forced out by the National Socialists (Nazis). The family was also forced to sell their company, valued around 60 Million Deutsche Marks, for under 6 Million Deutsche Marks.

In 2013, the home was converted into luxury apartments.
