Hansen is the founder of Valiant Capital Management, a San Francisco-based hedge fund.

He made headlines in 2013 when he (resp. a group led by him) tried to buy the Sacramento Kings and relocate the NBA team to Seattle. Ultimately, the sale to Hansen was rejected by the NBA's Board of Governors in a 22-8 vote.
