Darwen Road (B6472) Railway Bridge

Darwen Road (B6472) Railway Bridge (StreetView)
This stone-built railway bridge was built for the Blackburn, Darwen and Bolton Railway in the 1840’s.

The bridge is at the junction of the B6472 and the B6391 to the south of Bromley Cross Station and north of Hall I’th Wood Station.

The bridge only allows 14ft clearance above the carriageway on the B6472 and this “low bridge” has prevented the operation of double-deck buses on services between Bromley Cross and Bolton along the B6472. The bridge is however wide enough for a double track on the approach to Bromley Cross station from the south.
