Gerald is an American physician and neuroscientist.
He is as of 2007 Scientific Director of the Simons Foundation Autism Project, and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Columbia University.
He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and, since 1984, of the (U.S.) National Academy of Sciences.
He served 1998–2001 as director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke of the (U.S.) National Institutes of Health.
