Twin Palms, 1148 E. Alejo Road: Dubbed "Twin Palms" for two trees that still stand in the yard, Sinatra's first Palm Springs home featured a piano-shaped pool and low, horizontal lines that came to characterize a regional architectural style known as "desert modern." Sinatra lived here with second wife Ava Gardner, and in the late afternoons when he was in town Sinatra reportedly hoisted a flag bearing the Jack Daniels logo to signal neighbors that it was cocktail hour. Such rituals continued until 1957, when he divorced Gardner and moved to nearby Rancho Mirage. |
