Gypsy Rose Blanchard's Home (Former)

Gypsy Rose Blanchard previousy lived here, in Slidell Public Housing, with her mother Dee Dee.

Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years, and parolled after 8 years on December 28, 2023, for the murder of her mother, following years of abuse via munchause by proxy, claming her daughter had leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy and the "mental capacity of a seven-year-old due to brain damage".

After Hurricane Katrina devastated the area in August 2005, Dee Dee and Gypsy left their ruined apartment for a shelter in Covington set up for people with special needs. Dee Dee said Gypsy's medical records, including her birth certificate, had been destroyed in the flooding. A doctor there from the Ozarks suggested they relocate to her native Missouri, and the next month they were airlifted there.

In 2008, Habitat for Humanity built them this home with a wheelchair ramp and hot tub as part of a larger project. In Google Street View of the hisorical imagery, the ramp can still be seen. It has been since removed.
