The Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor lived here until his death in 2004. He is known for his portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper during the Great Depression in the film "Sounder" (1972) and as the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1978 miniseries "King".
