In architecture books, this house is known as the Sol Wurtzel residence in Bel Air, named after Solomon Max "Sol" Wurtzel, who built it. The house, inspired by Villa Giulia in Rome, was designed by the famous architect Wallace Neff.
Elvis Presley rented this home from November 1961 to January 1963.
The house was also rented by Howard Hughes, Alfred Hitchcock and Prince Rainier III Of Monaco.
In 1990 it was purchased by William Joseph "Bill" Bell Jr. and his wife, Maria Arena Bell, members of the powerful Bell television dynasty, which is known for its daytime soap operas for $4.775 million. Bill Bell Jr. is the son of William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell.
They put the house on the market in 2018 for $37.5 Million. It was bought by Jay Stein — Stein Mart’s longtime chairman, largest shareholder and grandson of company founder Sam Stein — and his wife Deanie in 2019 for $31.5 Million.
