Adolphe Thiers was a French statesman and historian. He was the second elected President of France and first President of the French Third Republic.

The property eventually became home to the Thiers Foundation, a school and foundation which supported students with scholarships and lodging. In the 1980s, it was transformed into the Saint James Club of Paris, a Longon-style private club. In the 1990s, a hotel was added, with it becoming the Saint James Paris.
