The former Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, US Senator and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his wife Landra purchased this house in July of 2014 for $769,000. After his political career ended, the Reid's sold their Searchlight, NV home and purchased this 3,571 SF home in Anthem Country Club to be near his children. Two of his sons were already living in this guard-gated community.

Take away our rights to protect ourselves but then live in a walled guarded neighborhood. Sounds about right! (Or wrong?)

Senator Reid did a lot of great things for us and our country. May he rest in peace and love.

Gated communities are antithetical to the ideals of democratic society, but since we live in an uninformed democratic society where firearms are widely available and people think their elected representatives are the cause of all their woes (and not simply a reflection of their own faults and choices), it makes sense that Reid would live here for security. He wasn’t my favorite politician, but he was pugnacious (which is what was required in the Senate at the time) and fought for the interests of Nevada.
