The house that was the inspiration for the 1948 movie “Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House” starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Melvyn Douglas. The movie was remade in 1986 as “The Money Pit” starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long.

Located in the Merryall section of New Milford, the spacious Colonial overlooks the winding Housatonic Valley. The house’s original owner, Eric Hodgins, was a vice president for Time Inc. in New York and decided to build his Connecticut retreat the way he thought a house should be built.

Stewart spent most of his professional life as an executive with Avon Products, Inc., and was based in Montreal, London and New York City over a successful thirty-three year career. Stu adored his home on the hill and was so proud of his family.
