Matt Bevin's is a businessman and politician who currently serves as the 62nd Governor of Kentucky.
Bevin's purchase of this property came under media scrutiny in the summer of 2017. Bevin claims that he purchased this home because the Kentucky Governor's Mansion didn't adequately accomodate his family of 9 children, and was too difficult to provide security to. Bevin paid $1.6M for this 117 year old mansion set amongst 20 acres. While Bevin claims the Governor's Mansion isn't large enough for his family (at 25 bedrooms and 18,428 sqft, his new home is only 6,473 sqft and has only 4 bedrooms according to county records.
He purchased the home from his friend, Neil Ramsey, who is also one of his largest campaign donors. Just one month after purchasing the estate, Jefferson County property appraisers valued the property at over $2.9M. Media outlets are now scrutinizing the sale, questioning whether it was a "sweetheart deal" in order to help out his friend. Bevin claims that it was simply an error and that the property appraiser overvalued the land.
